Jodi, I made homemade vanilla several years ago for Christmas gifts. I got the recipe from Southern Living magazine. My mistake was to not slice down the vanilla bean. It took forever for my vanilla to age. I purchased my beans at San Fransisco Herb Co. There may be cheaper options. This was before online shopping. :)
